Subjects offered

General education subjects

Designed to develop understanding of, and perspectives on, nature, society, and humanity. Students can learn foreign languages and information-processing skills to be used in our global and information society.

Specialized subjects

Basic subjects: Extend on the science and mathematics learned at high school by further education in these areas at Ibaraki University You can also study a variety of areas of science. Courses are arranged to suit studentsNULL levels of high school learning. Standard subjects: These courses are studied at university level and are standard specialized subjects offered by the College of Science.NULL
Advanced subjects: These are highly specialized courses. Subjects affiliated with introductory advanced science are also available.
Subjects to be studied in each school year
As part of the process used to select new students, you will need to select courses when you submit your application to take screening examinations. See below for details of how students are selected by the College for enrollment.

Affiliated subjects

Ibaraki Prefecture has affiliations with a large number of research institutions with large-scale research laboratories; any one single university would not be able to offer this. It also has affiliations with many companies with advanced technologies. The College of Science at Ibaraki University is located in the city of Mito, the prefectural capital of Ibaraki. Mito is situated almost in the center of the municipalities of Hitachi, Tokai, Oarai, Naka, Tsukuba, and Kashima. The College of Science provides affiliated subjects in which students can learn the latest in advanced science through an effective combination of lectures and practical education in cooperation with such regional institutions as the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), along with their researchers and engineers. The College of Science at Ibaraki University also provides an internship program for students to learn how science is used in society. The educational principle of these affiliated subjects is to develop human resources who are aware of their importance in supporting science in the 21st Century, who understand the need to enhance their unique ability to explore nature, and who can carefully plan the career paths they will take after graduation. Studying these affiliated subjects could help students to systematically, comprehensively, and uniquely study the specialized basic, specialized standard, and specialized advanced subjects offered by the College of Science at Ibaraki University.
